Programmes > Playfreely > Playfreely Studio 24 October 2026 Free Improvisation has played a key role in the evolution of the sound of The Observatory through the years, with its earliest incarnation appearing in the intro of ”𝘞𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦” on the first album. During live performances this section would frequently get stretched out in the spirit of improvisation. Back in 2011, the series 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘆 began as an idea to give that impulse a night of its own. We are now embarking on a new series, 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼, for Singapore musicians who are drawn to free improvisation but not had much options to pursue it. After two closed-door sharing sessions, five of them step into the open, in various configurations, on one night. The first presentation will be on 24 October, 8PM at Black Axis. Featuring the following musicians: 𝗘𝗿𝘆𝗻 (Pretty Girls Cry), guitar 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗴 (previously of Outer Orbit), guitar 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿 (Pretty Girls Cry), drums 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗻𝘆'𝘀 (sessionist for Bellied Star), keyboards 𝗡𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗶 𝗫𝘂𝗮𝗻 黄煒軒 (PB&J Collective, Singapore Chinese Orchestra), dizi |
