Come chill with us on 30 August as four SELECTORS hailing from diverse artistic backgrounds come together to present their thoughtfully curated playlists and share their personal musical inspirations. Experience cold beers, chill vibes, warm conversations, and exclusive merchandise available for purchase. Every contribution goes towards supporting ongoing fundraising initiatives. Dapheny Chen: An independent artist who dances amongst many hats — a dance maker, performer, educator, general manager of Dance Nucleus, and most importantly a daughter. For SELECTORS, she will be sharing songs for a funeral. “My dad is an avid music lover and a music hobbyist. He taught himself to play the drums, the saxophone, the guitar, the keyboard. Dad always had his own band. They now play for other elderly folks once a week at a CC. The playlist consists of songs my dad would sing and play throughout my life. Dad and I have decided that we will all be singing to this playlist at his funeral, all decked up in bright colours.” Melvin Tan: Design director of Currency Design and co-organiser of Hothouse. His eclectic mix for SELECTORS highlights a fusion of down-tempo drum and bass, garage, house, new age, R&B and trip-hop. It brings back memories for those who gathered at HMV in the 1990s and 2000s, including forgotten one-hit wonders and vibes reminiscent of artists such as William Orbit, Nitin Sawhney, Underworld, and Artful Dodger. Anna Lovecchio: A curator driven by the pleasure of learning with artists. Her playlist for SELECTORS came together after realising that 30 August falls on the full moon night of the Ghost Month. She will share a few tracks that, in one way or another, make her resonate with unearthly vibrations and otherworldly dimensions. “I think this is going to a bit of an erratic drift.” Renée Ting: Director of the Singapore Art Book Fair, an annual multi-day festival specialising in contemporary art books and zines. She is also the founder of Thing Books, an online shop for books, zines and things by artists. For SELECTORS, she will be sharing songs that she listens to when she needs to do some deep thinking or just have a good cry; songs that — when played at the art book fair — remind her to stop what she’s doing just to take it all in. Wednesday, 30 August 2023 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM Goodman Arts Centre (Blk L, 01-46) Admission: By donation The evening promises a compelling blend of sounds, stories, and meaningful exchange. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and stay for the full programme. |
